Meg Clifford Poole has worked at Meridian International Center since 1999 in numerous capacities. Her current position as Director of the Global Service Leaders Initiative (GSLI) is an outgrowth of the 2010 State Department project, Volunteerism: United We Serve. Its mission is to identify and cultivate service and volunteer leaders around the world. The network, started by former IV participants, is called VOLiNTEER. Meg’s role will be to further Meridian’s mission of strengthening international understanding through the exchange of people, ideas, and culture as it relates to service and volunteerism. Through her efforts, the VOLiNTEER Network will connect global service leaders to explore collaboration, and share knowledge, stories and best practices through service and volunteer programs. In turn, this will increase the number of global service leaders, and advance service movements within each country. Since joining Meridian, Meg has worked primarily on the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. She has designed and implemented 186 programs for over 700 visitors from around the world. Among other themes, Meg’s programs have focused on inter-faith dialogue, the arts, human trafficking, and volunteerism. Prior to joining Meridian, Ms. Poole lived in West Africa and volunteered for the Association for Rural Development, a small indigenous agricultural development organization in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Ms. Poole earned her Masters Degree in International Relations from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri and Regent’s College, London.
