An Australian foreign policy blogger participated in an IVLP from March 28 to April 8, 2011, that included stops in Washington, DC, St. Louis, MO Phoenix, AZ and San Francisco, CA. Notably, the participant brought his entire blog readership along with him, posting 11 entries and providing commentary throughout his time in the U.S. His articles ranged from cultural observations, such as “Oz Sightings” (references to Australia in popular American culture) to sound clips of interviews conducted as part of his professional appointments. Highlights were meetings with several prominent Washington-based news bloggers, social media experts at the Department of State and Defense, the St. Louis Blogger’s Guild (which has a large Tea Party representation), and Twitter. After returning home, the Australian blogger hopes to expand his blog from local commentary into a regional network of reporters and analysts.
