The Meridian Council on Women’s Leadership

Mission

The Council's mission is to strengthen international understanding of the political, economic, and social factors that accelerate the empowerment of women in their local communities, nationally and globally.

About the Council

The Meridian Council on Women’s Leadership, based at Meridian International Center in Washington, DC, connects and educates leaders from diverse fields and disciplines who have a shared interest in impacting women’s empowerment and leadership opportunities. The Council will fulfill its mission by engaging the Meridian global network and core exchange and programming capabilities to:

  • Convene meetings and programs that bring together stakeholders and key leaders from the U.S. and abroad to examine key factors that impact women’s empowerment;
  • Connect Council members with visiting international leaders who have a vested interest in women’s issues;
  • Work closely with private and public sector partners to identify opportunities to collaborate on projects of mutual interest and benefit;
  • Highlight “best practices” that have successfully advanced women’s leadership opportunities;
  • Leverage the Meridian technology platform to keep stakeholders connected and to disseminate information on programs, case studies, and best practices, and provide models and activities that have been appolied to advance women’s leadership and that can be replicated in other communities.

Programs

With the full support and backing of the Meridian organization the council will develop programs to implement its mission, including:

  • Programs and events covering a range of political, cultural, and economic issues that enable both in-depth discussion and analysis and the development of action-oriented projects that support women;
  • Face-to face meetings with women leaders from around the world visiting the United States on an exchange implemented by Meridian or a Meridian partner;
  • Initiatives that leverage the Meridian technology platform to facilitate the building of global networks and encourage the sharing of knowledge and information. Multimedia and social networking capabilities will promote sustained dialogue between Council members, exchange participants, and private and public sector leaders to support this community of common interests.

Membership in the Council is open to professionals and organizations committed to the advancement of women empowerment and leadership.
